SPATIAL COMMONS—CARE AND URBAN NEGOTIATIONS IN LÜBECK
TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY LÜBECK
SUMMER SEMESTER 25
SEMINAR
How are shared spaces (spatial commons) created in the city? What role do care practices play in this? And how can these invisible dynamics be made visible?
This block seminar is dedicated to the investigation of spatial commons in Lübeck—spaces that are created through collective use, informal structures or self-organized practices. A particular focus is on care practices in urban space: places and networks that enable care and solidarity. These commons can be visible or hidden, stable or precarious, recognized or contested. This raises the question of who has access to them and what dependencies or exclusions are associated with them.
Spatial commons and care practices in urban space are analyzed and documented using cartographic methods and situational urban research. The participants carry out observations and field research, try out mapping techniques and make small spatial interventions or markings in order to make commons visible. The focus is not only on documenting, but also on exploring new perspectives on the city—through drawing, photography, text or experimental interventions.
The results are presented as a mapping collage or visual dossier—a creative cartographic documentation of Lübeck's urban spaces of negotiation.
Block seminar and vernissage in the Versuchshaus Lübeck and exhibition in the Werkschau 2025 in the Gollan Werft Lübeck.
