TYPOGRAPHY IN SPATIAL CONTEXT: EXPLORING URBAN LANDSCAPES AS TYPOGRAPHIC GRIDS
SEMINAR
PFORZHEIM UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES
2016
Within the framework of the course 'Basics of Typography' at HS Pforzheim, the urban environment is conceptualized as a dynamic typographic grid. Through an interdisciplinary lens, students engage in the synthesis of typographic principles and in its expansion in space. In this endeavor, the urban landscape is transformed into a geometric blueprint, serving as both inspiration and canvas for the development of bespoke typographic patterns.
Through exploration and experimentation, students embark on a journey to craft 28 distinct letterforms utilizing found materials sourced from the urban milieu. Captured through the lens of photography, these typographic interventions are documented, edited, and curated into a series of posters.
